Reflections on music

"A person does not hear sound only through the ears;
he hears sound through every pore of his body.
It permeates the entire being,
and according to its particular influence either slows
or quickens the rhythm of the blood circulation;
it either wakens or soothes the nervous system.
It arouses a person to greater passions
or it calms him by bringing him peace.
According to the sound and its influence
a certain effect is produced.
Sound becomes visible in the form of radiance.
This shows that the same energy which goes into the form of sound
before being visible is absorbed by the physical body.
In that way the physical body recuperates
and becomes charged with new magnetism."
~ from 'Mysticism of Sound' by Hazrat Inayat Khan ~

"I have my own particular sorrows, loves, delights;
and you have yours.
But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love,
belong to all of us, in all times and in all places.
Music is the only means whereby we feel these emotions
in their universality."
~ H. A. Overstreet (1894-1985) ~

"Music washes away from the soul
the dust of everyday life."
~ Berthold Auerbach (1812-1882) ~

"Just as certain selections of music
will nourish the physical body and your emotional layer,
so other musical works will bring greater health to your mind."
~ from 'The Healing Energies of Music' by Hal A. Lingerman ~

"... everyone was using tiny brushes and doing watercolors,
while Jimi Hendrix was painting galactic scenes in Cinemascope.
We are working in a field of mystical resonance, sound and vibration...
that's what makes people cry, laugh
and feel their hair stand up ... "
~ Carlos Santana ~

"Music expresses that which cannot be said
and on which it is impossible to be silent."
~Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885) ~

"Music gives a soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
and life to everything."
~ Plato ~

"After silence,
that which comes closest to expressing the inexpressible
is music."
~ Aldous Huxley ~

"The truest expression of a people
is in its dance and music."
~ Agnes de Mile (1905-93) ~

"There's music in the sighing of a reed;
There's music in the gushing of a rill;
There's music in all things, if men had ears:
Their earth is but an echo of the spheres."
~ Lord (George Gordon Noel) Byron
English poet, 1788 - 1824 ~

"Music is well said to be the speech of angels;
in fact, nothing among the utterances allowed to man
is felt to be so divine.
It brings us near to the infinite."
~ Thomas Carlyle (1795 - 1881) ~

Unconditional Love

I love you as you are, as you seek to find your own special way to relate to the world.

I honour your choices to learn in the way you feel is right for you.

I know it is important that you are the person you want to be and not someone that I or others think you "should" be. I realise that I cannot know what is best for you, although perhaps sometimes I think I do.

I have not been where you have been, viewing life from the angle you have. I do not know what you have chosen to learn, how you have chosen to learn it, with whom or in what time period. I have not walked life looking through your eyes, so how can I know what you need.

I allow you to be in the world without a thought or word of judgement from me about the deeds you undertake. I see no error in the things you say and do. In this place where I am, I see that there are many ways to perceive and experience the different facets of our world. I allow without reservation the choices you make in each moment. I make no judgement of this, for if I would deny your right to your evolution, then I would deny that right for myself and all others.

To those who would choose a way I cannot walk, whilst I may not choose to add my power and my energy to this way, I will never deny you the gift of love that God has bestowed within me, for all creation. As I love you, so I shall be loved. As I sow, so shall I reap.

I allow you the Universal right of Free Will to walk your own path, creating steps or to sit awhile if that is what is right for you. I will make no judgement that these steps are large or small, nor light or heavy or that they lead up or down, for this is just my viewpoint. I may see you do nothing and judge it to be unworthy and yet it may be that you bring great healing as you stand blessed by the Light of God. I cannot always see the higher picture of Divine Order.

For it is the inalienable right of all life to choose their own evolution and with great Love I acknowledge your right to determine your future. In humility I bow to the realisation that the way I see as best for me does not have to mean it is also right for you. I know that you are led as I am, following the inner excitement to know your own path.

I know that the many races, religions, customs, nationalities and beliefs within our world bring us great richness and allow us the benefit and teachings of such diverseness. I know we each learn in our own unique way in order to bring that Love and Wisdom back to the whole. I know that if there were only one way to do something, there would need only be one person.

I will not only love you if you behave in a way I think you should, or believe in those things I believe in. I understand you are truly my brother and my sister, though you may have been born in a different place and believe in another God than I.

The love I feel is for all of God's world. I know that every living thing is a part of God and I feel a Love deep within for every person, animal, tree and flower, every bird, river and ocean and for all the creatures in all the world.

I live my life in loving service, being the best me I can, becoming wiser in the perfection of Divine Truth, becoming happier in the joy of ... Unconditional Love

Cherokee Parable

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life...

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

"One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

"The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

"This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
"Which wolf will win?"

The old chief simply replied,
"The one you feed."

Native American Code of Ethics

Each morning upon rising, and each evening before sleeping, give thanks for the life within you and for all life, for the good things the Creator has given you and for the opportunity to grow a little more each day. Consider your thoughts and actions of the past day and seek for the courage and strengthto be a better person. Seek for the things that will benefit others (everyone).

Respect. Respect means "To feel or show honor or esteem for someone or something; to consider the well being of, or to treat someone or somethin with deference or courtesy". Showing respect is a basic law of life.

a. Treat every person from the tiniest child to the oldest elder with respect at all times.

b. Special respect should be given to Elders, Parents, Teachers, and Community Leaders.

c. No person should be made to feel "put down" by you; avoid hurting other hearts as you would avoid a deadly poison.

d. Touch nothing that belongs to someone else (especially Sacred Objects) without permission, or an understanding between you.

e. Respect the privacy of every person, never intrude on a person's quiet moment or personal space.

f. Never walk between people that are conversing.

g. Never interrupt people who are conversing.

h. Speak in a soft voice, especially when you are in the presence of Elders, strangers or others to whom special respect is due.

i. Do not speak unless invited to do so at gatherings where Elders are present (except to ask what is expected of you, should you be in doubt).

j. Never speak about others in a negative way, whether they are present or not.

k. Treat the earth and all of her aspects as your mother. Show deep respect for the mineral world, the plant world, and the animal world. Do nothing to pollute our Mother, rise up with wisdom to defend her.

l. Show deep respect for the beliefs and religion of others.

m. Listen with courtesy to what others say, even if you feel that what they are saying is worthless. Listen with your heart.

n. Respect the wisdom of the people in council. Once you give an idea to a council meeting it no longer belongs to you. It belongs to the people. Respect demands that you listen intently to the ideas of others in council and that you do not insist that your idea prevail. Indeed you should freely support the ideas of others if they are true and good, even if those ideas ideas are quite different from the ones you have contributed. The clash of ideas brings forth the Spark of Truth.

Once a council has decided something in unity, respect demands that no one speak secretly against what has been decided. If the council has made an error, that error will become apparent to everyone in its own time.

Be truthful at all times, and under all conditions.

Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give of your best food, your best blankets, the best part of your house, and your best service to your guests.

The hurt of one is the hurt of all, the honor of one is the honor of all.

Receive strangers and outsiders with a loving heart and as members of the human family.

All the races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of one meadow. All are beautiful. As children of the Creator they must all be respected.

To serve others, to be of some use to family, community, nation, and the world is one of the main purposes for which human beings have been created. Do not fill yourself with your own affairs and forget your most important talks. True happiness comes only to those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.

Observe moderation and balance in all things.

Know those things that lead to your well-being, and those things that lead to your destruction.

Listen to and follow the guidance given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms; in prayer, in dreams, in times of quiet solitude, and in the words and deeds of wise Elders and friends.

THE SECRET OF THE UNIVERSE

Just for today

Take time to think...
it is the source of power.

Take time to play...
it is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to pray...
it is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to love and be loved...
it is a God-given privilege.

Take time to be friendly...
it is the road to happiness.

Take time to laugh...
it is the music of the soul.

Take time to give...
it is too short a day to be selfish.

Take time to work...
it is the price of success.

Take time to do charity...
it is the key to heaven.

The Art Of Smiling

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, and honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

Intellectual Development

The New Testament provides us with possibility to see the religiosity of people of different intellectual levels.

The highest level is represented by Jesus Christ. No one even of His personal disciples could comprehend with mind all profundity of His Teachings.

The second level is represented by the closest disciples of Jesus who tried to understand the Teacher and partly succeeded in this.

The next level is people of a high social rank who knew and followed earthly religious traditions concerning rituals and rules of conduct. But they were not capable of apprehending the living words of God.

And the lowest level is people capable of thinking only according to the following scheme: “They give me — it’s good! They stop giving me — it’s bad!”

The developed intellect of a person does not imply that the level of ethical development of this person is also high. But ethical self-perfection is not possible without a developed intellect. Therefore, if we seek spiritual self-realization, we have to work on intellectual self-development as well.

What does contribute to this development? First of all, getting education, various kinds of labor (especially, creative ones), work with books, taking part in theoretical search. The modern society, highly developed in the scientific and technical aspects, is a very good possibility for applying the mind and developing it.

… The translation of the New Testament (into Russian, for example) is far from being perfect. Profound meaning of some statements of Jesus was “cut off” by translators, who were incapable to understand His ideas.

But one error in translation had a disastrous effect. It is the phrase “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven” (Matt 5:3). Many readers concluded from it that Jesus preaches intellectual primitivism and parasitism.

But Jesus meant completely different thing! He said about future blessedness not of panhandling parasites, but of people who renounced possessing material wealth and who did it not due to laziness, drunkenness, or other reasons like this, but due to spiritual creed — “due to spirit” and not “in spirit”.

Those will be blessed in the Kingdom of Heaven who renounced possession of earthly things, renounced seeking earthly wealth because the Heavenly Father will be their Wealth if they dedicated themselves to aspiring for Him. “Do not lay up treasures on the Earth…, but lay up treasures in Heaven… for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt 6:19-21), — this is one of the most important postulates of His Teachings.

Regarding wisdom Jesus taught the following: “Ignorance is the mother of all evil for us. Ignorance will result in (spiritual) death. Those abiding in the Truth will be perfect when all the Truth is revealed (to them). … How much it is stronger than ignorance and error! It gives Freedom.

Jesus said, ‘If you know the Truth, the Truth will make you free. Ignorance is slavery. Knowledge is Freedom.’

“If we know the Truth, we shall find the fruits of the Truth within us.” (The Gospel of Philip, 123).

“… Be wise… and simple…” (The Gospel of Thomas, 39).

The Ripple Effect

Each choice we make causes
a ripple effect in our lives.
When things happen to us,
it is the reaction we choose
that can create the difference
between the sorrows of our past
and the joy in our future.

Know Yourself Through Awareness

"What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself."
Abraham H. Maslow

"To be authentic is literally to be your own author, to discover your own native energies and desires, and then to find your own way of acting on them."
Warren G. Bennis

"Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts."
Albert Einstein

"Self-knowledge is the great power by which we comprehend and control our lives." Vernon Howard

"You can live a lifetime and, at the end of it, know more about other people than you know about yourself."
Beryl Markham

Who am I? To answer this, we must first learn to become more aware of ourselves. To be aware, we must STOP and PAY ATTENTION! We need to STOP and objectively watch and experience ourselves in action.

We live most of our lives by habit. These habits keep us stuck in patterns that limit our experience of life. Once we detect a pattern we were previously unconscious of, we can choose differently, if we want. With awareness comes choice and with choice, we gain freedom.

Start building the awareness habit: STOP and PAY ATTENTION. Set an intention to become aware of how you automatically react to different things in your life.

For example, how do you typically react to the alarm clock, traffic, work colleagues and situations, your partner or children? How do you react to anger or fear in someone else? How do you react to your own anger or fear? Become a witness to your own life. Pay attention to how you do things.

Become aware of how your thinking creates your reality. Probe the messages underlying your emotions. Learn to honour your body's wisdom. Awareness reveals to us a whole new fascinating world.

Align with your true essence
Identify and resolve life issues and your life will change!

Triple Filter Test (Socrates)

In ancient Greece(469-399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom.

One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance that ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students called Plato?"

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

"Triple filter?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test.

The first filter is TRUTH. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of GOODNESS. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of USEFULNESS. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher & held in such high esteem. Friends, use this triple filter each time you hear loose talk about any of your near & dear friends.

A moment of Peace

Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm - it comes from becoming still - in
order to reflect and meditate on our inner wisdom and receive answers. A
peaceful heart is one that is free from worry and trouble. It's becoming quiet
so we can look at things quietly so we can more clearly understand them and
thus come up with creative solutions. It is learning to live in the present.

End each day with thoughts of peace. Begin each day with thoughts of peace. Continue thinking thoughts of peace throughout your precious day and happiness will be yours.

A smile is the beginning of peace.
- Mother Teresa

Select your direction

Your destination depends not on where you are but on which way you go. Your results depend not on what has happened, and not on what you have, but on what you do with it all.
From here, you can go anywhere. There are pathways leading in every direction.

What matters now is which of those pathways you choose. What matters now is the next step you take.

Give yourself permission to decide what you truly desire for your life and for your world. And know that there is a way, right now, to begin creating it.

When your thoughts and actions have a clear, specific purpose, each moment will carry you closer to the fulfillment of that purpose. When you move consistently in a chosen direction, you cannot help but reach the destination you choose.

Lovingly, thoughtfully and carefully select your direction today. You are always moving toward something, so make that something exactly what you wish.

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD

What change can we effect? What's the difference we want to make in the world?

Gandhi said, "In a gentle way you can shake the world." Here are some things to think about how to do just that...

1. Know that all significant change throughout history has occurred not because of nations, armies, governments and certainly not committees. They happened as a result of the courage and commitment of individuals. People like Joan of Ark, Albert Einstein, Clara Barton, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison and Rosa Parks. They might not have done it alone, but they were, without question, the change makers.

2. Believe that you have a unique purpose and potential in the world. It's not so much something to create as to be discovered. And it's up to you to discover it. Believe that you can and will make a difference.

3. Recognize that everything you do, every step you take, every sentence you write, every word you speak-or DON'T speak--counts. Nothing is trivial. The world may be big, but there are no small things. Everything matters.

4. To be the change you want to see in the world, you don't have to be loud. You don't have to be eloquent. You don't have to be elected. You don't even have to be particularly smart or well educated. You do, however, have to be committed.

5. Take personal responsibility. Never think "it's not my job". It's a cop-out to say, "What can I do, I'm only one person." You don't need everyone's cooperation or anyone's permission to make changes. Remember this little gem, "If it's to be, it's up to me."

6. Don't get caught up in the how of things. If you're clear on what you want to change and why you want to change it, the how will come. Many significant things have been left undone because someone let the problem solving interfere with the decision-making.

7. Don't wait for things to be right in order to begin. Change is messy. Things will never be just right. Follow Teddy Roosevelt's timeless advice, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

8. The genesis for change is awareness. We cannot change what we don't acknowledge. Most of the time, we aren't aware of what's wrong or what's not working. We don't see what could be. By becoming more aware, we begin the process of change.

9. Take to heart these words from Albert Einstein--arguably one of the smartest change masters who ever lived: "All meaningful and lasting change starts first in your imagination and then works its way out. Imagination is more important than knowledge."

10. In order for things to change, YOU have to change. We can't change others; we can only change ourselves. However, when WE change, it changes everything. And in doing so, we truly can be the change we want to see in the world.

Dare to Dream

The Serenity Prayer

Let’s build bridges, not walls.

Great results require great ambitions.

Sunday, March 23, 2008

"Rather than endlessly waiting for others to do you a good turn, to show you signs of trust, respect, friendship and love, and, above all, instead of complaining when this does not happen, start manifesting these good sentiments toward others yourself. Whatever happens as a result, you will always benefit.

Even if, in spite of your efforts, people fail to live up to your expectations, your efforts will activate something in the invisible world, and luminous entities will come to your aid. So at every opportunity, endeavour to comfort, encourage and enlighten others, and you will notice that a higher power will come and support you. If you need love and light, try first to give them to those who need them even more than you do, and God himself will come to love and enlighten you."

'Take a long and slow breath of the power of the sun. Imagine, as lively as possible, that
you are now connecting yourself with the sublime soul of the sun.'
'Pull the sublime soul of the sun down into you and inside of you.'
' Try to get a a very real image of this idea, as something that you can even touch.'
'Experience it as a fact that you become the power of sun yourself.'
'The soul of the sun streams through your breathing organs into your solar center, the solar
plexus; you make it glow, and from here it spreads into your whole body.'
'You must feel this in the tips of your fingers, each cell must participate in this procedure.'
'You experience a peculiar, elevating sensation. It is like electricity that awakes in you: yes,
but it is even more than that.'
'There are spiritual powers developing inside you in the course of this exercise. You must
learn to grasp all this from within.'
'Then the boundaries of your nature will be enlarged and you will finally feel the heavenly
sun beating and pulsating inside you.'
'This exercise is best done at sunrise.'
'If the sun of life is never to set, then you must ignite it within yourself.'
This is more than a symbol; it is reality.'

" The Creator has sown seeds in the soul, spirit, mind and physical body of every human being: the seeds of gifts and virtues, of Magic powers and of all heaven's splendours, and only the light and warmth of the sun are capable of awakening these seeds and making them grow. The day man understands this and decides to draw nearer to the spiritual sun, all the seeds lying dormant in him will begin to sprout and grow and produce flowers and fruit." (Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov)

The Gentle Art of Blessings

Remember...

“No one needs a smile as much as a person who fails to give one.”

“There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all.”

“Enthusiasm is that secret and harmonious spirit which hovers over the production of genius.”

“Many of life's failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

“There is no failure. Only feedback.”

“It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not.”

“A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm.”

“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

“There isn't a person anywhere that isn't capable of doing more than he thinks he can.”

“While there's life, there's hope.”

“Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.”

“In the end, the size of a person's accomplishment can best be measured by the size of their heart.”

“You change your life by changing your heart.”

What if your life could become your greatest artistic expression? What if you were designed specifically to recreate your life over and over again, at will, and based on your highest ideals? Would you design it differently?Conscious Co-Creation is the art of manifesting your heart's desire through a divine connection with Source and the deliberate use of the Sacred Universal Laws. It is the ability to maintain a frequency of love, joy and gratitude to attract the reality where miracles become common place.
Thinking with your heart is a direct route to your limitless potential. Careful examination of your thought processes, coupled with the ability to equivocate the mind will enable you to consciously create your deepest desires and release the abounding joy that resides within us all. Realigning with this intrinsic power is the lighted pathway to your earthly success where abundance awaits you now.
